Women on Wheels (WoW) Ladies Charity Cycle Ride sponsored by Rudlings Wakelam and in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care

Cycle Suffolk are inviting ladies to take part in a charity cycle ride in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care which will take place on the day that hundreds of international female cyclists cross the finish line on Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds at the end of the inaugural Women’s Tour.

Bury St Edmunds has been chosen to host the finish of the five-day Women’s Tour on Sunday May 11. The Tour, the country’s first ever international stage race for women and supported in Suffolk by brewers Adnams, will see the very best British riders spearheading the race, including Olympic stars.

Inspired by the Women’s Tour finish, the Women on Wheels (WoW) charity ladies cycle ride, sponsored by Rudlings Wakelam, will allow female participants aged 8 and over to choose from a short (5 miles) or long (20 miles) route through countryside cycle paths around Bury St Edmunds.

The ride starts in Charter Square and ends in the Abbey Gardens in time to see the riders in The Women’s Tour cross the finish line. There will be a pre-ride warm up and trained ride leaders. The ride will be fully marshalled and signed and is open to women and girls eight and over of all abilities.

Mildenhall Cycling Club and the West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club are working with organisers Cycle Suffolk and supporters Suffolk Sport and Abbeycroft Leisure to make the event a fantastic fundraiser for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Joseph Young, from Cycle Suffolk which is organising the charity ride, said: “Sunday May 11 will be a celebration of all things cycling and in particular women’s cycling. We hope Women on Wheels will become an annual event and encourage people who have not been on a bike for a while to have a go. The routes are designed to be an achievable distance and the event will be friendly. There is no competition and it will be a great starter ride.”

It costs £10 to enter (free for those under 16 who are accompanied by a paying adult), including free goody bag. Participants must register in advance at www.suffolksport.com/wow

Sign in on the day is from 7am and the rides start at 8am and 8.30am.
