Haverhill Rugby Club raise in excess of £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

When a club legend was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, Haverhill Rugby Club grouped together and organised a run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Luke Stockings, our Trainee Solicitor and a group of 14 guys of varying ages signed up to Nuclear Races. An event where you run 12km while having to manoeuvre over, through and under 120 muddy obstacles on a cold wet and windy Saturday morning in Brentwood, Essex.

An initial fundraising target of £1,000 was set, and subsequently hit. Then increased to £1,500 and hit again, before finally raising in excess of £2,000.

On Saturday 12th November, Luke and the guys set off from Haverhill Rugby Club to Brentwood; a short journey made longer given the grim weather conditions. Wearing green shirts for Macmillan Cancer Support, and bright yellow socks the guys looked the part as they queued up with hundreds of other runners on the day.

A few hours after setting off on the start line, every guy crossed the finishing line with a smile on his (extremely muddy!) face. After setting off as a team, they crossed the line as a team! Despite there being a few in the 18-24 category and even a few in the over 50 category, everyone made it to the finishing line to collect their medal and a well-deserved hot cup of tea.

Macmillan cancer will be attending Haverhill Rugby Club shortly to collect the cheque in excess of £2,000 and to thank the Rugby Club for their great fundraising efforts.

As corporate sponsors of Haverhill Rugby Club, Rudlings Wakelam couldn’t be more proud!
