Meet the Private Client Team
Meet the Private Client team at Rudlings Wakelam . . . offering a holistic approach to legal issues
Long established firm Rudlings Wakelam is going from strength to strength especially in the private client department where the work of wills, probate, tax planning, lasting powers of attorney and deputyship work is undertaken. Senior Partner Fiona Ashmead and head of the private client team said "we are very proud of the members of our team who display not only the professional skills expected of a solicitor but also have the skills to deal with the range of emotions involved in dealing with are often very emotional, difficult and raw situations. We have drawn on the various skills that members of the department have brought with them including the additional experience of working with a range of charities, mental health clients and voluntary organisations. We are going to miss Penny Brice, previously as partner in the firm and head of the private client department, who worked tirelessly with her clients and who has now retired with her husband to Yorkshire. We are very grateful to her for her hard work and legacy in establishing excellent connections within the local community who we will be proud to continue to help.
Our Private Client team now comprises Fiona Ashmead, Cassie Arbour, Jill Merriam and Catherine Laband. Fiona brings her property knowledge to the team which is invaluable as for a majority of clients property will be a major asset. She is also working towards completing the highly regarded STEP exams to build on previous work experience in this field and gain the STEP accreditation. Cassie who joined Rudlings Wakelam last April having done her training in Norwich partly in a financial organisation, is passionate about dealing with Trusts and Tax. Jill has re-entered the private practice arena having worked most recently with Age UK as an Advocate for the Elderly Advisor and Independence Advisor and her knowledge of benefits is invaluable in ensuring all the correct funds are claimed for a client. Catherine who was formerly a Partner in an Ipswich firm, brings many years of experience in all areas including Probate. Together the Private Client team at Rudlings Wakelam are able to offer a sound holistic approach to all issues facing clients. An increase in medical advances has brought the bonus of longevity but also for some families the worry and stress of dealing with a family member with dementia issues* (see panel). We are committed to assisting these people who are often overlooked in society even with all the current publicity. We offer home visits for those who are unable or have difficulty in coming in to see us. We want to make advice accessible to all who need it.
As a firm we are committed to listening to our clients needs and providing the advice they need for their changing needs during their lifetime. We call this “Advice for life”. For the private client this means reviewing their wills on a regular basis to address changes during the course of their lives such as children, grandchildren, divorce, marriage, any life changing circumstances of their beneficiaries and the ever changing tax regime. We also support our clients with advice on Lasting Powers of Attorney both for financial matters and also health and welfare issues. In circumstances where people are unable to make their own decisions because of mental incapacity, Rudlings Wakelam assist the family with making applications for them to be a Deputy for their loved ones or where there are no family members then we can apply to be a Deputy for them so that someone has their best interests at heart. Essentially we are here to make things as smooth as possible.
